Luxembourg Group Wishes to Sign EU Accession Treaties by December 2002
Portorož, 7 September - Chief negotiators of the Luxembourg group of EU candidate countries expressed expectation to solve most of the open negotiations issues with the EU by the end of the year at Friday's meeting in Portoroz. Thus next year's focus could be on the last package of chapters most related to the budget, namely agriculture, regional policies and contributions to the common budget. Slovenia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Estonia and Cyprus also share the hope to conclude EU negotiations by the end of 2002 and sign their accession agreements at the December 2002 EU summit in Copenhagen.
