Independence Day: Slovenes Decide to Go Independent 11 Years Ago
Ljubljana, 25 December - Since results of a referendum in which over 88 percent of Slovenes voted for an independent Slovene state were declared on 26 December 1990, Slovenia has celebrated Independence Day. The referendum known as plebiscite was held three days earlier, on 23 December 1990, with the turnout standing at over 93 percent.
