National Assembly Finishes First Reading of Law on Arts Financing
Ljubljana, 18 March - NATIONAL ASSEMBLY/CULTURE/LAW
The National Assembly (DZ) finished the first reading of a proposal of a law on the organisation and financing of the arts and adopted 20 views and resolutions on the legislation. The DZ charged the proposer with preparing the law for the April reading so as to define in a more precise manner the jurisdiction of the state in the implementation of cultural policies, particularly in regard to the establishment of institutions, their management and financing, the criteria for public tenders and a stimulative tax policy as an expression of public interest in the arts. The majority of deputies held that the law has arrived with a threeÄyear delay, that it fills the vacuum in the area of culture which arose after 1990, and that the small size of Slovenia must no longer represent an obstacle in the establishment of Slovenian culture.
