Weekly Review of Events Involving Slovenia from 9 to 15 March
Ljubljana, 16 March - Slovenia's bid to join NATO was the subject dominating the foreign political scene last week, as the Defence Minister Anton Grizold visited Berlin and Oslo to discuss this issue. Visiting Slovenia was head of the NATO directorate for civil crisis planning Steve Orosz, while the NATO political and military steering committee met with Slovene officials in Brussels to discuss the implementation of the Membership Action Plan. Prime Minister Janez Drnovsek at the EU summit in Barcelona attended a meeting of the leaders from the fifteen member states with those from the candidate countries. Irishman Erwan Fouere officially became the new head of the European Commission delegation to Slovenia, while Slovenia's Europe Minister Janez Potocnik in Helsinki attended a presentation of Slovenia. In Slovenia, meanwhile, the trade union of doctors and dentists announced to go on strike next week.
