Finland Flies to Victory in Planica
Planica, 23 March - It was Finland's day on the giant hill in Planica as its ski-jumping team (Hautamaeki, Lindstroem, Jussilainen, Ahonen) outjumped the rest in Saturday's team competition. The Finns had seven of their eight jumps go past the 200 metre mark, scoring a total of 1,612.7 points. Despite excellent second round jumps by Martin Schmitt and Sven Hannawald, Germany still finished 73.2 points behind Finland to take second place. Austria took third place with a total of 1,494 points. The home crowd faviourites Slovenia, spurred by the excellent jumping of Robert Kranjec (213.5 and 214 metres), took fifth place behind Japan with a point total of 1,369.1.
