jubljana, March 24 (STA) - In a letter addressed to National Assembly President Herman Rigelnik, Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Drnovšek proposed that the National Assembly relieve Janez Janša of his duties as Minister of Defence.***

"The meddling by military institutions and persons in the civilian arena, and the use of physical violence in it, is an act which threatens the legal order and basic principles of modern democratic systems," writes Drnovšek. The Prime Minister continued that "the Minister of Defence is ex officio responsible for this action. If I failed to take any measures, it would be a sign that Slovenia is not governed by the firm principles of the rule of law, and that such cases may reoccur in the future," stated Drnovšek.
