NGOs Call on Top Slovene Officials to Promptly Ratify Kyoto Protocol
Ljubljana, 23 April - The non-governmental organisations Climate Action Network, Climate Action Network Central and Eastern Europe, Umanotera and the Slovene E-Forum addressed open letters to the Slovene Prime Minister Janez Drnovsek, Speaker of Parliament Borut Pahor and the chairman of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee, in which they highlighted the need for the prompt ratification of the Kyoto Protocol. The NGOs believe that Slovenia is lagging behind in the ratification process, something that could prove costly in the end, even as concerns Slovenia's bid to join the EU. The final deadline for the ratification of the Protocol is 1 June of this year.
