Initiative to Hold Referendum against Selling Banks to Foreigners Rejected
Ljubljana, 24 April - The parliament legislative office established that Tuesday's initiative filed by the non-parliamentary New Party to start collecting 40,000 signatures in support of a referendum against selling state-owned banks and insurance companies to foreigners cannot be launched as it is not based on any bill currently in parliamentary procedure. The office gave its opinion to Speaker of Parliament Borut Pahor, who sought it after the New Party asked the parliament to give it the go-ahead to start collecting signatures for the referendum, the office of the speaker said.
