There Is No Need for Transitional Period for Direct Payments after 2007, Minister But Says
Stockholm, 27 April - On a working visit to Sweden, Slovene Agriculture Minister Franci But on Saturday met with his Swedish counterpart Margareta Winberg to outline Slovenia's view on direct payments in agriculture, a highly sensitive topic in accession negotiations with the EU. Minister But told STA that Winberg pledged support for Slovenia's proposal to cover from the national budget the difference between direct payments envisaged for new members by the EU, and the amount EU farmers currently receive.
