Delo: The Changes in NATO

Ljubljana, 15 May - The first secretary general of NATO Lord Ismay went down in history with his statement that the purpose of NATO is "to keep the Americans in, the Russians out and the Germans down". However, following September 11 and the more or less independent U.S. fight against terrorism in Afghanistan, NATO has been pushed to the side and there has been no shortage of warnings that the U.S. would not remain "in" at any cost if the other members failed to prepare themselves to fight the new, more virtual enemy, that is terrorism, the daily Delo says on Wednesday.
