Slovene Agriculture Minister Worries if EU Does not Adopt Common Agriculture Standpoint

Madrid, 3 June - There seems to be no compromise in the EU's common agriculture policy to be adopted at the upcoming Sevilla EU summit so far, said Slovene Agriculture Minister Franci But after meeting with Spanish counterpart Miguel Arias Caneta. "We are all expecting a common EU standpoint on direct payments, but there has been no agreement yet. That could be a serious problem, if not a halt in the negotiations and could be just as bad for the EU member states as the candidate countries," stressed But, adding that Spain, currently presiding over the EU, would try everything in its power to find a compromise already this week.
