Irish "No" to Nice Treaty Would Not Be an Insurmountable Obstacle, FM Rupel Believes
Ljubljana, 4 June - The Irish referendum on the Nice Treaty is one of the obstacles that candidates have to overcome if they want the enlargement roadmap to proceed as planned, Slovene Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel told the parliamentary foreign affairs committee on Tuesday. However, if the referendum outcome was negative, the European Commission would have to examine other possibilities to carry out the enlargement process. This would not be an insurmountable obstacle, but it would take some time, he concluded.
