Ljubljana, 14 June - The STA English service will cover the following events on Friday, 14 June:

LJUBLJANA - The executive committee of the ruling Liberal Democrats (LDS) is to convene behind closed doors to debate the preparations for the autumn presidential elections and whether to field Prime Minister and LDS President Janez Drnovsek as the party's presidential candidate. (3 PM)

BRUSSELS - Secretary General of the Swiss Association of Journalists Alexander Sami, who on behalf of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) in April in Slovenia investigated the case of the beaten-up journalist Miro Petek, is to present a report on the case and the freedom of press in Slovenia together with head of IFJ projects Oliviere Money-Kyrle. (1:30 PM)

LJUBLJANA - Director General of the National Statistical Office Tomaz Banovec and State Undersecretary Tomaz Smrekar are to present the first findings of the 2002 census, which was carried out between 1 and 15 April 2002. (10 AM)

LJUBLJANA - President of the Slovene Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS) Jozko Cuk is to receive Russian Ambassador Tigran Karakhanov for a farewell working visit to discuss GZS activities that have helped balance the trade between Slovenia and Russia. (12 AM)
