LDS Council Backs Prime Minister's Decision to Run for President

Slovenska Bistrica, 17 June - The council of the senior coalition party, the Liberal Democracy (LDS), on Friday unanimously backed the decision of LDS president and Prime Minister Janez Drnovsek to stand for office in the autumn presidential elections. "Some members of the council have voiced concerns about the announced change in the government and the party, however they took my decision with understanding," Drnovsek told the press after the session, and rejected the possibility that LDS would renounce the opportunity to name a new prime-minister designate in favour of forming a "technical government".
