Weekly Review of Events Involving Slovenia between 29 June to 5 July

Ljubljana, 6 July - The visit of King of Spain Juan Carlos with his spouse and the visit of the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama were in the focus of last week's events in Slovenia. The Chinese embassy officially protested against the Dalai Lama's visit, however the Slovene Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel explained that this was a private visit hosted by the Ljubljana University which does not change Slovenia's official policy towards China. Slovenia last week got its eight presidential candidate, as the coalition United List of Social Democrats (ZLSD) said it would back university professor Lev Kreft as their contestant. Parliament Speaker Borut Pahor, meanwhile, is about to sign a decree announcing that the autumn elections are to take place on 10 November.
