Weekly Review of Events Involving Slovenia between 13 and 19 July

Ljubljana, 20 July - Slovene President Milan Kucan's official visit to Bosnia-Herzegovina on Thursday stood out of the events of the week. Prior to the visit, the media caused quite a stir, accusing Slovenia of imperialism. On the other hand, the bilateral relations got tenser, as Slovene Ambassador to BH Tadej Labernik was quoted by Bosnian press as comparing BH moves toward Slovenia to the former regime of FRY's Slobodan Milosevic. For that statement, the ambassador was called to the BH Foreign Ministry, whereupon he explained that the statement was a free journalistic interpretation. Nevertheless, Kucan's visit was nearly cancelled, but the president then on Wednesday evening confirmed the arrival, as he came to the conclusion that the cancellation would not serve either interests of Slovenia and BH.
