17 Lives Lost in a Year of Above Average Number of Fires in Slovenia
Ljubljana, 21 July - The 4,382 fires recorded in Slovenia in 2001 is above the average of the last years, the Slovene Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief said while revealing statistical date on fires for the last year. A total of 17 people lost their lives in the fires, which also destroyed 813 Ha of land and caused property damage of more than SIT 4bn (EUR 17.6m). The most devastating fire broke out at the Izola Docks - a Swedish ship caught fire - resulting in SIT 750m (EUR 3.3m) of property damage.
