PM Drnovsek ahead of Arhar in Presidential Race, Survey Shows, NATO Support Up

Ljubljana, 29 July - Prime Minister Janez Drnovsek would become the new president if presidential elections were held at this point, according to a survey of the daily Dnevnik, which suggests that Drnovsek would win 47.8 percent of the vote in the runoff, while his main rival, former central bank governor France Arhar, would get 42.7 percent. The survey also noted an increasing support for NATO, as 60 percent of those polled were in favour of NATO membership, while 53.9 percent of those who would go to referendum would cast a yes vote for membership.
