Weekly Review of Events Involving Slovenia between 27 July and 2 August
Ljubljana, 3 August - In a week marked by the political tranquility of summer, the headlines were made by EU-related topics, foremost by the new round of accession talks between the EU and the applicants, including Slovenia. At the latest round of negotiations, the first since Denmark took over the six-month presidency of the 15-member bloc, Slovenia managed to close the regional policy chapter. Despite the closure, the main issues related to regional policy, including funding, were not finalised by the EU and Slovenia. The week was also marked by a meeting of the Slovene and Croatian ministers for European affairs. Meanwhile, a protest of Slovene farmers filled the otherwise empty streets in the centre of the Slovene capital.
