Pivovarna Union Surprises with Proposal for Interbrew-Sponsored Capital Injection
Ljubljana, 12 August - The extraordinary assembly of brewer Pivovarna Union, scheduled for 2 September, promises to make headlines, as the management of the brewer has decided to expand the agenda to include a proposal for a capital increase of SIT 850m (EUR 3.7m). The only company invited to provide the fresh capital is to be Belgian brewer Interbrew, which owns 40.92 percent of Union and has been involved in a takeover battle for Union with leading Slovene brewer Pivovarna Lasko. The Lasko-based brewer, owner of 46.29 percent of Union, disagrees with the move - put forward by Interbrew - and said it would file a counter-proposal.
