U.S. Proposal on ICC Runs Contrary to Human Rights Declaration, Ombudsman Says
Ljubljana, 19 August - Slovene Ombudsman Matjaz Hanzek opposes the U.S. proposal for the conclusion of a bilateral agreement with Slovenia aimed at preventing U.S. citizens from being extradited by Slovenia to the International Criminal Court (ICC), and expects the Slovene government to reject it. Such an accord runs contrary to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, he said in Monday's press release, "therefore I see no need to delay with a negative reply to the U.S.".
