No World Record for Ceplak at Linz Meeting

Linz, 19 August - Slovenia's Jolanda Ceplak and Maria Mutola of Mozambique were supposed to have a go at the 1,000-metre world record at Monday's athletics meeting in Linz, Austria, however they were far from it in the end. Mutola crossed the finish line in a time of 2:38.08, missing the world record set by Russian Svetlana Masterkova in 1996 by more than nine seconds, while Ceplak, the reigning European indoor and outdoor 800-metre champion, only came in third with a time of 2:38.50, as she was beaten in the final moments of the race by Dianne Cummins of Canada.
