Slovenian Ambassador Hands Credentials to the Pope

Vatican City, 5 September - Slovenian Ambassador to the Holy See Ludvik Toplak handed his credentials to Pope John Paul II at his summer residence in Castel Gandolfo on Thursday. The Pope welcomed the new ambassador and gave Vatican's full support for Slovenia's EU membership. The Christian heritage is an important contribution that Slovenia can offer to strengthen a civilisation in Europe that would be attentive to mutual understanding among nations, said the Pope. Toplak thanked him for his sympathy and support for the Slovenians, especially during the time of independence and international recognition.
