Slovenia Could Be Net Payer to EU Budget, According to European Commission
Brussels, 10 September - Slovenia, together with the Czech Republic, Cyprus and Malta, could be among the net payers to the common EU budget immediately upon accession to the EU, show the precise financial calculations of the enlargement with ten new members in 2004. The proposal was filed to the EU member states by the European Commission at the end of last week as the basis for further accession negotiations with the candidates. But the Commission points out that the calculations do not include its proposal on lump payments that would make sure that none of the new members would be worse off financially compared to before EU membership.
