Vecer Comments on Potential Papal-Patriarchal Summit in Slovenia
Maribor, 17 September - The proposition by Slovenian PM Janez Drnovsek that Russian Patriarch Alexy II and Pope John Paul II could meet in Slovenia, is commented by the second Slovenian daily on Tuesday. Vecer suggests it would be a historic feat if two Slovenians, Drnovsek and Ljubljana Archbishop Franc Rode suddenly pulled off what the Pope could not in 24 years of pontificate. But, observes the paper, the ice between both Churches remains and the "summit" is probably merely an opportunity to collect political points.
