STA Coverage on Monday, 23 September

Ljubljana, 23 September - The STA English service will cover the following events on Monday, 23 September:

LJUBLJANA - PM Janez Drnovsek is to answer opposition MPs' questions at the onset of a fresh parliamentary session, the first after the summer recess. The session begins at 2 PM.

ASTANA - Slovenian President Milan Kucan is to begin a two-day red-carpet visit to Kazakhstan to meet with several officials, including his counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev. An economic co-operation accord is to be signed. Kucan is accompanied by Economics Minister Tea Petrin.

LJUBLJANA - Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel is to speak to the press at 11 AM about foreign policy topics and some of his recent and upcoming visits.

LJUBLJANA - Vice-President of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Ewald Nowotny is due to begin a two-day visit; meetings with several officials are on his agenda, including one with Finance Minister Anton Rop.

LJUBLJANA - A two-day conference on mid-term forecasts, organised by the Institute for Macroeconomic Analyses and Development (IMAD), is to begin, with some 100 experts from over 20 countries expected to take part.

LJUBLJANA - The Economic and Social Council - gathering representatives of the government, employers and trade unions - is to discuss a bill to privatise Slovenian Railways, which is strongly opposed by several railways trade unions.

LJUBLJANA - 16 mayors are expected to gather for the 6th conference of mayors of SE European capitals to discuss the role of capital cities in ensuring security and peace. FM Dimitrij Rupel is to address the participants.

KOPER - Experts are to gather in the morning to discuss Slovenian-Italian relations in the last 100 years. The event is organised by the Koper-based Scientific and Research Centre of Slovenia (ZRSRS) and several other research institutions.
