Note to Editors - STA Coverage of Presidential and Local Elections
Ljubljana, 24 September - In line with Article 5 of the Election Campaign Act, the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) is publishing the rules for the coverage of candidates and political parties, as well as their manifestos for the presidential and local elections that will be held on November 10.
During the election campaign starting on October 11, STA is to provide a balanced coverage of the candidates, their manifestos and activities in the pre-election period, according to its editorial policies. News coverage in the pre-election period will be published in individual reports and in special features.
STA will not release election advertisements in its English Service.
STA will publish results of public opinion polls in line with Article 4 of the Election Campaign Act, which sets down mandatory citation of the author, procedure and the contractor. According to the Act, public opinion polls concerning the elections shall not be published in the period seven days before the election date.
STA has no influence over further distribution of its news reports in the media of its subscribers, who have their own rules for coverage of the elections.
In line with the Election Campaign Act, the election calm will begin at midnight Friday, November 9 and last until the close of polling booths at 7 PM CET on Sunday, November 10. In this time, STA will abstain from publishing news reports related to the elections.
