Benefits for Former Presidents Stir Heated Debate in Parliament
Ljubljana, 25 September - A government proposal to grant retired presidents extensive rights was the subject of a heated debate in the Slovenian parliament on Wednesday. Criticism was heard from most of the parliamentary parties, ranging from calls to supplement the bill to outright opposition because of exaggerated benefits. Despite the second thoughts, lawmakers decided to grant the bill further passage in parliament. The next step is the relevant parliamentary committee, where numerous amendments can be expected to be filed.
