Request for Minority Status of Styrian Slovenians Turned Down
Graz, 26 September - Discussing the Slovenian community's request for minority status, authorities of the Austrian province of Styria concluded this week that there is no Slovenian minority in the province. Explaining the decision to STA, a representative of the Styrian Slovenians said the provincial government had concluded that "Styrian Slovenians do exist, but there is no collective awareness among them", meaning that they cannot be termed a minority.
