Weekly Review of Events Involving Slovenia from 5 to 11 October
Ljubljana, 12 October - Two things that Slovenia has been eagerly awaiting were finally confirmed this week: the European Commission issued the recommendation that Slovenia should be among the ten candidates that are to enter the EU in 2004; while Prime Minister Janez Drnovsek ended months of hesitation and finally confirmed that he would enter the presidential race. While people will have to wait for almost two years to start calling themselves EU citizens, whether of not Drnovsek will become president - only the second person to hold the office since Slovenia gained independence - will become clear much sooner; presidential elections are due on 10 November.
