National Interest First Focus for Nine Presidential Candidates
Ljubljana, 17 October - The nine official candidates for the November 10 Slovenian presidential elections focused their first head to head debate broadcast by the national television on issues that have recently split public opinion in the country. Foreign takeovers of Slovenian companies and NATO membership thus dominated the show which was marked by wide array of views, but not many confrontations. The presidential hopefuls also took a look at the privileges that former presidents should have, while agreeing that despite its mostly ceremonial nature, the presidency is an important post, especially in times of crucial dilemmas.
