All Principal Financial Issues Still Open in EU Enlargement
Brussels, 24 October - Heads of the EU member states meeting in Brussels Thursday are to ensure that accession negotiations conclude successfully December's EU summit in Copenhagen. They have to decide which countries are prepared to join the EU in 2004, as well as reach an agreement on financing the enlargement, thus enabling the continuation and conclusion of negotiations with the acceding countries. So far, the Union has not formed a common position on any of the burning issues and the proposed solutions are a far cry from newcomer's wishes.
