35th Chess Olympiad Opens in Slovenia
Bled, 25 October - The largest chess event ever, the 35th Chess Olympiad, was officially opened at the Slovenian lake-side resort Bled on Friday evening. Until 10 November over 100 women's and 140 men's national teams are to hold chess duels in 14 rounds. Aside from over 2,200 participants and escorts, the Bled Olympiad has also attracted the two standing world champions, China's Xie Jun and Ukrainian Ruslan Ponomariov. Moreover, the recognised greatest chess players of all times, Judith Polgar of Hungary and Gari Kasparov of Russia, are also attending.
