EU Enlargement to Take Place on 1 May 2004

Brussels, 18 November - New member states will join the European Union on 1 May 2004, agreed the EU foreign ministers in Brussels on Monday, according to diplomatic sources. The date is to be finally confirmed by EU leaders at the summit in Copenhagen in mid December, when accession talks with ten candidate countries are to wrap up, the diplomatic sources also said.
