Six EU Candidates "More or Less" Ready, Slovenia Wants Higher Compensation
Brussels, 6 December - Six of the ten EU candidate countries scheduled to become members in 2004 are "more or less" ready to wrap up accession negotiations on the basis of the compromise package put forward by the Danish EU presidency, sources with the Danish presidency said. Meanwhile, Slovenia, along with the Czech Republic, are said to be ready in principle to wrap up negotiations, but are demanding higher compensation payments. Two other candidates have expressed outright rejection of the compromise package.
