Greater Compensation Payments Secure Conclusion of Talks

Copenhagen, 13 December - Slovenia wrapped up accession talks with the EU on Friday, opening the door for its full-fledged membership of the Union on 1 May 2004. The country accepted an improved offer from the Union in the second round of talks at the EU summit. The deal guarantees that the country would be a net beneficiary of EU budget funds, receiving around EUR 250m in the first three years of its membership. It also offers a number of other concessions.
