Slovenians Voted for Independence 12 Years Ago
Ljubljana, 23 December - The vast majority of Slovenians opted for Slovenia's independence when they cast their referendum ballots exactly 12 years to date, on 23 December, 1990. Results were officially published on 26 December (95 percent voted yes), a day which has been celebrated since as Independence Day. The holiday will be marked on Monday with a special session of the Slovenian Parliament, followed by an official state ceremony in the Cankarjev dom arts and conference centre.
