Environment Standards Still Below Satisfactory Levels

Ljubljana, 29 December - Much has been done in Slovenia in the field of environment protection over the last few years, but the situation is not yet satisfactory. Environment is still polluted in city centres, and the pollution of underground waters poses a serious problem, which is most bitterly felt in the south-eastern part of Slovenia. On the other hand, the emission of greenhouse gasses is on the decrease, which is necessary to implement the Kyoto Protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
