Ljubljana, 30 April - The most favourable news of the week is the report from Brussels saying that the European Committee has passed the proposed mandate for the beginning of negotiations between Slovenia and the European Commission on the agreement on associate membership of Slovenia in the European Union. Another pleasing item of news is the report from the Economic and Social Council of the European Union (EU) on the economic and political situation in Slovenia, which establishes that Slovenia will be ready for full membership in the EU by the end of the century. At the session of the Political Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe held in Ljubljana, the possibility of Russia becoming a member of this organisation was discussed. The members of the Commission were informed of the sitation in Slovenia and met with the country's highest representatives.
