Drnovsek for TV Slovenia: Both the U.S. and the EU Are Slovenia's Allies

Ljubljana, 9 February - It would be extremely bad for Slovenia's international position and national security if the referendum on NATO membership fails, President Janez Drnovsek said in an interview for TV Slovenija on Sunday evening. Touching on Slovenia's stance on Iraq, he said that the country "does not wish to be pushed into any group" over the issue, neither among the countries of the "old" or "new" Europe, nor among those who advocate the European or those who favour the U.S. position. "Our allies are both the U.S. and the EU - i.e. Germany and France within the Union," Drnovsek stressed.
