Procedure to Change Constitution Given Green Light by MPs

Ljubljana, 12 February - In a 71:5 vote, the National Assembly launched Wednesday the procedure to change four "European" articles of the Constitution in what is to open the door to Slovenia's membership of the EU and NATO. No MP abstained from voting. In order for the changes to apply to the forthcoming EU and NATO referendums, a constitutional act on the planned amendments should be passed by 28 February. This is the first time for the parliament to decide on constitutional changes during its current term.
