Weekly Review of Events Involving Slovenia from 15 to 21 February

Ljubljana, 22 February - The Iraq crisis continued to dominate headlines in Slovenia during the past week. While Slovenia joined a stance on the Iraq crisis reached Monday by EU member states, Slovenia's Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel continued to face mounting pressure for the country's decision to support the Vilnius group declaration of support for U.S. policy on Iraq. And although the minister received the support of the parliamentary foreign policy committee, the Youth Party announced that it would file an interpellation motion against him. Meanwhile, the Slovenian government received a request from the U.S. for permission to transport arms required to protect Turkey in case of military intervention in Iraq.
