100 Years of Author of Controversial "Alamut"

Ljubljana, 23 February - Vladimir Bartol, the author of one of the most widely translated Slovenian novels, Alamut, would celebrate his 100th birthday on 24 February. When it was first published in 1938, Alamut was received with considerable scepticism by critics. Now, decades later, critics and readers alike talk about it with nothing but superlatives. The novel has become increasingly popular at home and abroad after the September 11 attack.
