Full Alignment with EU Only After Transitional Periods
Ljubljana, 15 March - The EU accession process is based on the premise that newcomers will be able to fully implement EU legislation the day they become members. However, both sides acceded to certain transitional periods, which allow for certain policies to be enacted after transitional periods expire. Slovenia agreed on transitional periods in nine out of the 31 negotiating chapters, mainly at its own demand.
