High Support for EU Accession ahead of 23 March Referendum

Ljubljana, 16 March - Contrary to rather uncertain support for Slovenia's accession to NATO, the Slovenian public has always been favourable to the country's membership of the EU. The backing has increased considerably as the accession negotiations wrapped up in December 2002, first exceeding 60 percent and then reaching beyond the 70 percent mark only a week before the referendum on the EU accession is to be staged.
