Weekly Review of Events Involving Slovenia from 15 to 22 March
Ljubljana, 22 March - As Iraq was attacked by the U.S. on Thursday, 20 March, all subsequent events in Slovenia were overshadowed by the war. While top politicians regretted that force was used against Iraq, peace activists immediately launched a series of anti-war protests. Even the campaign leading to the 23 March referenda on the country's membership of the EU and NATO was in the shadow of the war, despite a number of foreign visits here as well as panels trying to persuade citizens to vote either for or against the membership. Meanwhile, the European Parliament foreign affairs committee gave its approval of Slovenia's entry into the EU this week.
