STA Coverage on Sunday, 23 March

Ljubljana, 22 March - The STA English service will cover the following events on Sunday, 23 March:

Coverage of the referendums of Slovenia's membership of the EU and NATO:

- polling stations open throughout Slovenia at 7 AM, to close at 7 PM

- press centre is to open at 8 AM at conference centre Cankarjev dom

- embargoed statements by several top officials after they have cast a vote are to be released during the day (President Janez Drnovsek, Speaker Borut Pahor, PM Anton Rop, FM Dimitrij Rupel, Europe Minister Janez Potocnik, Defence Minister Anton Grizold)

- turnout figures are expected to be released after 11 AM and after 16 AM by the National Election Commission

- a report on violations of the election calm

- at 7 PM two exit polls are to be covered, one of the national broadcaster TV Slovenija and the other by the commercial station POP TV

- results of early vote - which took place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - are to be released first, expectedly soon after 7 PM

- early unofficial results are expected late in the evening, first about the EU referendum and then about the one on NATO

- invited by Speaker Borut Pahor, President of the European Parliament Pat Cox is to begin a two-day official visit in the evening. He is to meet with EU ambassadors at the Europe Centre and hold a meeting with FM Dimitrij Rupel. Accompanied by Pahor, he is to visit the press centre at Cankarjev dom, following the outcome of the EU referendum.

- response of EU and NATO advocates and opponents

- PM Anton Rop is to give a press conference, expectedly between 8:30 and 9 PM at the press centre

- around 6 PM, NATO opponents are to gather at Menza pri koritu, a venue at the alternative cultural centre Metelkova, to follow results of the NATO referendum. A number of public figures have been invited by the Peace Institute.

- late in the evening, a review of commentaries of the referendums from the press is to be released

PLANICA - The last day of the ski-jumping World Cup finals. The preliminary series is scheduled for 9 AM, the first series for 10 AM and the second series for 11 AM.
