What Follows after Positive Outcome of Both Referendums?
Ljubljana, 23 March - That Slovenia should join the EU and NATO, was decided by Slovenian voters at the referendum on Sunday. With a turnout of over 60 percent, nearly 90 percent opted for the EU and over 66 percent for NATO, according to early unofficial results. The outcome of both referendums is legally binding for the parliament, which adopted the changes necessary to accommodate for Slovenia's entry into both organisations last month. As the referendums on the EU and NATO cannot be repeated, the country is to join both organisations in May 2004.
