Review of the Slovenian Economy Between 22 and 28 March
Ljubljana, 30 March - The strong support for EU membership at last week's referendum was met with mixed feelings by representatives of the Slovenian economy. While the Chamber of Commerce - representing employers - warmly welcomed the decision of the Slovenian voters, Slovenia's leading association of trade unions said that EU accession calls for more intensive social dialogue. The most negative response to the referendum outcome came from Slovenia's farmers, who claimed that there is still much work to be done in the Slovenian agriculture sector if it wants to be competitive when the country joins the EU in May 2004.
