Increasing Consumerism is a Threat to the Planet
Ljubljana, 2 June - Greater consumption has a significant impact on the environment, since production and consumption already exceed by 25 percent the limit to which the ecosystems can renew themselves, Lars Mortensen of the European Environment Agency said in his opening address to the 2003 Green Week in Ljubljana. In order to reduce consumption growth, joint political and consumer decisions must be taken, he said.
